Description
Pohutukawa has cultural significance in Maori mythology and is also used medicinally. As a seasonal indicator for Maoris and Christian settlers, it became known as the New Zealand Christmas tree. Its hard strong timber was used for ship building and it is featured in artwork, poems and stories. Sally’s striking red flowers almost jump out of the dark blue ground.
