These demonstration sets are never available to Collectors or the general public. ①The basic form of the vase is cast with slip (liquid clay) in a plaster of paris mould. The porous plaster absorbs the water out of the slip, leaving a skin of clay lining the mould. ②The piece is hand turned on the horizontal lathe to refine the finish. ③ An inked outline is then rubbed onto the surface before tube-lining is complete. Tube-lining is the application of liquid clay, which is squeezed from a rubber bag, somewhat like icing a cake.
